Kino jinak
Prague’s alternative cinema – an experience that goes beyond the screen.
Prague is not just a city of multiplexes and blockbusters – small, independent, and community cinemas also play an important role in its cultural structure, providing space for art films, documentaries, and experimental works. These cinemas often function as multipurpose cultural spaces, combining screenings with discussions, concerts, cafés, and exhibitions. Whether you are looking for the intimate atmosphere of the Aero cinema in Žižkov, the industrial flair of Bio Oko in Holešovice, or the elegant surroundings of Edison Filmhub, Prague’s alternative cinemas will transport you to a world where film is not just a consumer product, but an experience to be shared.
Head to places where film meets community, ideas, and soul.
1.Bio Oko – an art cinema with the soul of a community space
Bio Oko, the only “aerokino” from 1940 in Holešovice, is an oasis for lovers of independent and art films. Inside the functionalist building, you won’t find classic seating – the auditorium is furnished with beach chairs, beanbags, and even a car body. With a capacity of around 400 seats and 4K + 7.1 sound technology, it offers a unique experience. It is open daily, from morning screenings for seniors to evening festival screenings and lectures, including live broadcasts of opera and ballet performances.
